Monte Arcosu

A few kilometres from the Nora Club Hotel & SPA, in the mountainous region of south-west Sardinia, lies the Monte Arcosu nature reserve, 4000 hectares of wild mountains covered with dense, typically Mediterranean forest.

The forest consists mainly of holm oak and cork, the undergrowth consists of phillyrea, lentisk, oleaster, myrtle, rosemary and cistus.

In the area along the Riu Guttureddu, which runs through the main valley, you can see beautiful examples of alders and willows. The area is not only home to beautiful examples of Sardinian deer, but is also known for the vast presence of fallow deer, wild boar, wild cats, golden eagles and Sardinian goshawks. Among the rare species present, we must not forget the peregrine falcon, the discoglossus, endemic to Sardinia, and a characteristic butterfly: the ‘Sardinian swallowtail’.
